Content & songwriting process
Many humans are analyzing WHY things are the way they are, sometimes with no reasonable answers other than we live in a very saddening and even exasperating system of things. The writing is about some of these things while trying to add some emotion to the thoughts so as to adapt the lyrics to a musical platform.. Then, sitting with instrument, messing around with chord progressions and rhythms and trying to make up a vocal lead line, things just started coming together from that point.
Choice of instrumentation / philosophical musings from the studio
What About Darcy Band has 3 personnel that are older (like S&G's "BookEnds" in our mid to late 70's!!!), with quite different backgrounds and many varying experiences and their related consequences, good and bad that effected our lives, as well as being very experienced musicians. After providing a recording of the DEMO of the songs written by one member of the band to all members of the band, everyone's instincts just took over. The Genre was not something that we focused on, from the then current (WAD) repertoire, but because of our background in CLASSIC ROCK and other genres, we could readily adopt it. We just played our instruments the way we always do adapting it to the slightly new genre material.
The "HOW & WHY" behind our creative choices
Songwriters can only do so much. Once the music and lyrics are written, it really depends on the musicians to deliver a quality rendering of the material...and of course, the vocalist's ability to get inside the emotion of a lyric. This is paramount to the song's success. What About Darcy Band wanted to "BRING IT!!" for you listeners. We can only hope that we did just that for you as "a passage way for vintage thoughtful listening".
